Are you a client of SCC and interested in the dance classes we hold there?

Please click HERE for more information.

FYI: If a class is titled "Waitlisted" this means that this class is currently FULL. In most cases, we are able to allow a few extra students into a class (depending on the discipline) or open a second class. If you are interested in a FULL class, please still register and be added to the Waitlist. We will notify you if a new class opens or we are able to accommodate. In the meantime, if there is a class that would be your second choice, we strongly recommend registering into that class also in order to avoid both becoming full.

Show classes for:
Acro

This discipline is a combination of dance technique and acrobatic elements. It focuses on promoting flexibility, tumbling, strength, balance, contortion, and partner/group stunts. Each lesson involves training in gymnastic-style elements but is often put together with style and choreography. We are a fully accredited studio with certified ACC teachers (in Acrobatic Arts, an internationally recognized syllabus).

Ballet

This discipline is the foundation of technique and balance for all styles of dance. Discipline and creativity are used to improve flexibility, strength, and proper positioning. Ballet technique is essential for improvement and appropriate advancement in other styles of dance as well. Offering various levels including pre-primary to advanced, pointe, and pointe prep, as well as ballet barre specific classes for those more serious or interested in improving more quickly. Ballet is incorporated into almost all classes and is strongly encouraged for all ages by the staff and director at Springbank Dancers.

Competition Choreography

Competition Choreography is a scheduled time every week, where dancers from our competitive team meet to learn and practice choreography. It is NOT required for all competitors and dancers must be approved to participate in one of these classes. Each class will learn more than one group routine that will be taken to competition in the Spring so it is a great way to develop a strong routine with constant practice, and build great team spirit.

***NEW***

This season we have introduced Hip Hop Competition Choreography Classes for those hip hoppers who would like to learn and perform a hip hop group routine at competition this season. It is a great way to get to be a part of our competitive team without the added weekend rehearsals!

Contemporary

A collection of mixed styles derived from modern dance, which does not follow a specific set of techniques. Recommended to help improve and enhance technique and control with influences from ballet, lyrical and jazz. Contemporary explores challenging body positioning and emotions and is often seen as dramatic, interpretive, and rigid.

For the 2016/17 Season, we are very excited to offer Lyrical/Contemporary Combo Classes! Both styles have such similar foundation work and with much overlap, so we want to give the dancers to opportunity to experience both, without having to take multiple classes.

*Just as a friendly reminder, enrollment in a regular Ballet is required in order to take Lyrical/Contemporary

Creative Movement

For those 3 and 4 year olds looking to start dance and discover balance and creativity through movement. Offering a fun, energetic, and interactive environment to keep those little ones involved and busy during their class each week. From tumbling to tapping, this class helps increase the extent of body movement to improve coordination, control, and muscle awareness. Guaranteed to keep those little ones busy and burn some energy for a full hour each week!

Fusion

For our more recreational dancers who are maybe interested in taking only one class per week or for dancers who are new and would like to explore different options! "Fusion" incorporates multiple disciplines into one class and does not require dancers to be taking ballet outside of that class.  It does however include everything from Barre work, Across the Floor Material, Centre Technique, Strength/Conditioning, and Dance Combinations!

*Please note, as each class does attempt to cover multiple styles, dancers will have a productive learning year but it must be recognized that these dancers are more recreational and will not pass through the levels as quickly. For example, a dancer in Fusion may be exposed to multiple styles but may only cover 20-30min of Jazz technique a week and therefore will not accomplish as much in that style as a dancer in our regular Jazz stream, doing 1 to 1.5 hours of Jazz per week. We like to make clients aware of this so that if your dancer is interested in continuing with a certain style for many years to come, or is interested in joining with a group of dancers in our regular stream in the future, we may not recommend stick with the Fusion classes.

Hip Hop

Strong and powerful dance movements to Hip Hop and R&B music. Includes different styles of urban dance while increasing an understanding of various music beats and rhythms. Classes designed to concentrate on choreography and memory, without limits to body movements. Hip Hop is energetic and perfect for those looking for an interactive and relaxed style of dance. Offering various levels including Junior to Advanced, for all ages, boys and girls.

Jazz

Jazz is a strong technically based style of dance consisting of unique movements, body and musical awareness, intricate foot movements, leaps and turns. In order to excel in jazz, dancers are strongly recommended to have a background in ballet to improve strength and balance.

For the 2016/17 Season, we will continue to offer both Jazz Technique Classes AND Jazz Styles classes.  All Jazz dancers are encouraged to take both.

*Just as a friendly reminder, enrollment in a regular Ballet is required in order to take Jazz, and in order to enrol in Jazz Style, a dancer must also be enrolled in Jazz Technique.

Lyrical

Lyrical is a combined style of dance including jazz and ballet technique allowing the flexibility to explore various graceful and expressive movements. An emotional and dramatic discipline of dance representing the lyrics and significance of music and song.

Musical Theatre

A form of dance that combines technique from Jazz, Ballet, and Lyrical with song and music from stage/theatre performance. Musical Theatre is a fun, outgoing style that improves a dancer’s confidence and creativity throughout Broadway performance. All dancers involved in Musical Theatre classes are strongly encouraged to also participate in a technique class (such as ballet, jazz, lyrical, etc.).

Pre-Primary, Pre-Junior, and Primary Combo Classes

A great place for our younger dancers to start experiencing various styles and disciplines. With classes for age 4 through 6 we offer various combinations of Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Tap, Acro, and Hip Hop at differing times throughout the week. Combo classes are helpful for guiding your dancer into what styles may interest them and for building an essential foundation for growth. Combo may classes include:

  • Creative Pre-Primary Jazz/Tap/Ballet/Acro (age 4+)
  • Pre-Primary Jazz/Ballet (age 4+)
  • Pre-Primary Jazz/Acro (age 5+)
  • Primary Jazz/Ballet (age 5+)
***Each of these classes will incorporate elements of other disciplines, but these are just listed to clarify the main focus of the class.

SCC - Springbank Cottage Care Classes

In the past we have offered classes AT the Springbank Cottage Care. If your dancer attends SCC and you are interested in having a class there, please let us know! ...we currently do not have classes scheduled at SCC for 2016/17 but would definitely consider it.

Creative Movement:

For those 3 and 5 year olds looking to start dance and discover balance and creativity through movement. Offering a fun, energetic, and interactive environment to keep those little ones involved and busy during their class each week. From tumbling to tapping, this class helps increase the extent of body movement to improve coordination, control, and muscle awareness. Guaranteed to keep those little ones busy and burn some energy for half an hour each week!

Fusion Dance:

For age 6 to 10 year olds, this class combines ballet, jazz, and hip hop! Allows dancers to explore various styles while at the Day Care. The class focuses on being fast paced, high energy, and exposure to lots of material!

Stretch & Flexibility Intensive

While many dancers cannot afford (with their other commitments) to add on an additional full-year class, they are often still looking for that push in the beginning of the season to improve their flexibility. Geared towards the dancer who is determined to make big advancements in their stretch, strength, and flexibility in a short period. The class will meet once a week for 12 weeks and will focus on specifics, such as getting dancers into flat splits, improving hip & back flexibility, having strong back bridges, and practicing various leg holds and floor work. Dancers will be expected to have consistent attendance and utilize the "take-home" material that is provided. This class will also have guest teachers throughout the session!

As this class is an intensive, it is directed toward the hard working dancer, our competitors, or those in Acro wishing to add an additional class.

Tap

Use of tapping footwear and precise foot movements in various patterns to create an audible form of theatrical dance with music and rhythm awareness. Recommended ballet or jazz experience for ankle strength and proper positioning.

Seasonal Workshops

We are so excited to offer "Workshop" Classes within our schedule for the upcoming season! You have the option for signing up for a specific 3 or 4 week Workshop, or for the entire Semester! Workshops may include: Improv, Jumps & Turns, Musicality and Music Theory, Choreography, Core Strengthening, and more!

Please note: Workshops are geared toward the experienced dancer and not encourage if you're new to any technical style of dance.
